Green Buildings Task Force

The Green Buildings Task Force serves as a peer network to share information on how to help buildings decarbonize through energy efficiency retrofits, electrification, and installing solar panels. We are currently working to identify buildings in Jackson Heights and nearby Queens neighborhoods to form a bundle of rooftop solar projects that can attract better pricing from solar installers.

If you’re interested in joining the Green Buildings Task Force Solar, email Anthony at queensclimateproject@gmail.com.

Compost Taskforce

The Compost Task Force is comprised of passionate, knowledgeable volunteers, from master composters to compost beginners. All are united in the belief that composting is essential to fighting climate change. New York City must step up in its efforts to divert food waste from our landfills. We educate community members about the benefits of composting, help coops and buildings set up their own sites, and work together to expand composting opportunities in Jackson Heights and other Queens neighborhoods (see our English/Spanish Trash to Treasure Info Sheet). We are pleased that curbside organics collection began in Queens, is now also in Brooklyn, and will expand to the rest of NYC in 2024!

Political Action

The Policy Task Force promotes sound climate policy at the city/state level, supporting renewable energy and the withdrawal from the fossil fuel economy. We believe that New York City and State must develop local clean energy options, such as solar and wind power. We also maintain that this transition to a 100% clean energy economy should be equitable, with an emphasis on front-line communities.

The Policy Task Force employs a variety of strategies to further these goals, such as meeting with legislators to discuss proposed legislation that supports clean energy solutions, coordinating petition drives, attending and testifying at public hearings, and educating fellow New Yorkers about issues that directly affect their health and quality of life.
